1. Information We Collect
1.1 User Content
To provide AI assistance, the app captures and transmits:
- Screenshots: Images of your screen are captured only when you explicitly trigger the "Ask" action.
- User Questions: The text prompts you enter.
- Extracted Text (OCR): Text recognized within your screenshots.
This content is not linked to your identity and is used solely to generate a response.
1.2 Usage and Context Data
To give the AI context about what you are working on, we collect:
- Active Application Name: (e.g., "Xcode", "Safari") so the AI knows which tool you are using.
- Application Bundle ID: For precise app identification.
This data is used exclusively for app functionality (improving the AI's answer) and is not used for tracking or advertising.
1.3 Diagnostics
We collect minimal diagnostic information:
- macOS Version: To ensure compatibility and provide OS-specific advice.
1.4 Exceptions (What We DO NOT Collect)
We do NOT collect:
- User IDs, names, emails, or phone numbers.
- Persistently stored accounts (we rely on Apple's system).
- Contact lists, calendars, or location data.
- Advertising IDs or tracking cookies.
2. How We Process Your Data
Our data processing depends on which plan you use:
2.1 Standard Plan (Hosted AI)
If you use our built-in AI service:
- Your screenshots and questions are transmitted securely (encrypted) to our backend server.
- Our server immediately forwards this data to premium AI providers (e.g., Google, OpenAI) for processing.
- We do not persistently store your screenshots or questions. They are processed in memory and discarded after the response is generated.
2.2 "Bring Your Own Key" (BYO) Plan
If you use your own API key:
- Your data flows directly from your Mac to the AI provider you selected (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
- Your data never touches our servers.
- Your API keys are stored securely on your local device (in the macOS Keychain) and are never transmitted to us.
3. Purchases and Payments
All payments are processed securely by Apple via the Mac App Store.
- We do not have access to your credit card information.
- We do not know your real name or address.
- We only receive an anonymous receipt token to verify your subscription status.
4. Third-Party Services
We utilize trusted third-party AI providers to generate responses.
- AI Providers: When you allow it (via the Hosted or BYO plan), data is sent to providers like Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic.
- Data Privacy: We use enterprise/API tiers where possible, which typically do not use your data for training their models. However, you are subject to the privacy policies of these respective providers when interacting with them.
5. Data Retention
- On Our Servers: We have a zero-retention policy for User Content. Screenshots and questions are ephemeral.
- On Your Device: Settings and preferences are stored locally via `UserDefaults`. Secure secrets (like API keys) are stored in the Keychain.
6. Your Rights
Since we do not create user accounts or store personal data linked to your identity:
- Access & Deletion: You can delete all local data by simply uninstalling the application. We hold no server-side data to delete.
- Opt-Out: You can stop data transmission at any time by not using the capture feature.
